Checklist to write a dissertation

It’s now. You have said I need to create my dissertation . What you don’t know about academic papers is the actual content. How do you know? Use a checklist.

This checklist will cover all aspects of submitting your dissertation. This checklist will be most helpful if your dissertation is complete and ready for submission. These guidelines address key aspects of dissertation projects. Revisions to dissertation requirements are recommended as certain universities have particular submission requirements, referencing styles, and document formatting requirements.

All sections should be included. These include the Abstract, Acknowledgements Table Of Materials and Lists Of Tables & Figures.

The Abstract is often the first section in a dissertation. Although it is often placed before the table and always written last, an abstract is a summary of the entire dissertation. The abstract gives a summary of the entire dissertation, and highlights the key findings.

After you have completed the main text of the thesis, you can write the acknowledgments. This is a way to say thanks to those who helped you research or supervised you.

When acknowledging others, it is common courtesy to thank your tutor, committee members and all those who helped you to write your work.

You can add a list of Acronyms and Definitions to make it easier for readers.

The Introduction chapter provides background information, a summary of the topic and the goals. This chapter also outlines the structure of your research. After the dissertation is completed, you can revise it to make it more attractive for readers.

The conclusion summarises the work and shows whether or not the goals and objectives were met. These should be discussed with reference to both previous studies as well as your own results.

The main chapters of the thesis provide information about the study and the method used. Your narrative should be coherent, logical, and free from mistakes.

The Literature Review should outline your conceptual framework and define the key theories you are referring to. You may want to revise your contents in order to align your dissertation’s overall course.

It may be helpful to have a table that lists key theories and authors. It makes it easier for you to reference them during your Discussion chapter.

The Methodology Section should contain a list of variables necessary to conduct a quantitative research and a description about all methods and instruments that were used.

Discuss all possible threats to validity and reliability.

It is essential to clearly describe your analysis process. It is crucial that other researchers in your field follow your steps and achieve similar results.

The Analysis chapter must contain all key figures and tables that show your results.

Your Literature Review should be cited in the discussion.

It is important to review your objectives and make sure that you provide clear recommendations on how you have achieved them.

The formatting of your thesis text must conform to university guidelines. Each page should be numbered as well as each figure and table.

Check that the Reference List includes all sources referenced in the text. Also, make sure that your style is consistent throughout the work.

Figures and tables should have headings. They should also be referred to in the main text. Headings should be given to tables and figures if they were taken from another source.

All relevant elements should be included in your Appendices, including informed consent forms, additional figures, and interview transcripts.

In one sitting, read your entire dissertation. Your text should be concise and have a consistent flow between paragraphs, sections and sentences.

Signposting can help you make your dissertation more accessible to non-specialists.

Your 1 st dissertation must include a summary of the major contributions made by academics and practitioners.

Discuss the main limitations of your project.

Check the word count for all sections if it is required by your university.

Open your dissertation on several computers before submitting it. This will allow you to identify compatibility and bugs.

If possible, send the document as PDF. This will ensure the document is compatible across all computers.

Verify that all figures in your document are embedded into JPG or NGA files. In submitted work, cross-referenced elements shouldn’t be used.

Proofread all text, formatting spacing, and fonts. Both printed and electronic copies are required to avoid “bleary eyes”.

Review the formatting on your title page.
